Veterinarian
Dr. Abernathy has been a licensed veterinarian since 2008 and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and also holds a Master's degree in Applied Environmental Science from California State University—an academic combination that reflects her deep commitment to animal health and the world they live in. At times, Dr. Abernathy teaches science in the field for the local schools and finds this important and rewarding.
She completed a rigorous internship at a large Emergency and Referral hospital, rotating through Critical Care/Emergency, Oncology, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, and Neurology. This intensive training shaped her into a versatile clinician with a strong foundation across multiple specialties.
Throughout her career, Dr. Abernathy has practiced primary care, shelter medicine and surgery, urgent care, and emergency medicine and surgery for a wide range of species. Her work has taken her across the United States and to several countries, giving her a global perspective on veterinary care and animal welfare. Dr. Abernathy's broad expertise, steady presence, and genuine dedication to animals make her an invaluable part of our veterinary team.
Dr. Abernathy is also bilingual in Spanish.
